Though he claims to be the child of Bibidi, he is in fact a clone. Bibidi created him as an assistant, but after his death, all of the wizard's magical powers were transferred to Babidi. In the TV series, Babidi is seen in Hell cheering for Goku instead of Buu, as he held a grudge against Buu for killing him.
The evil wizard plans on reviving the menace that is Majin Buu in Trunks's world as well. With very few powerful warriors left alive, Babidi is forced to employ more labored means of gathering energy, ultimately taking him several years to come close to accruing enough.
