He had been sealed within the Scepter of Darkness until it was accidentally destroyed. After Mephiles was freed, he took on a chilling new physical appearance copied from Shadow's own shadow.

A master manipulator who behaves in mysterious ways, Mephiles makes others do what he wishes by exploiting their fears, doubts, and ambitions, all in service of a calculated plot to achieve his dark goals.
