Instead, he would rather have used his strong military acumen to prove himself as an elegant artist of underwater combat.
As one of the first to join Sigma's uprising, Octopus was tasked with attacking and taking over cities built. on the ocean and blockading their trade routes with his marine Mechaniloid fleet. Maverick Hunter X was deployed to drop anchor on Launch Octopus' activities. He would later do so again on Laguz Island during the Erasure Incident.
SPOILER: In battle, Launch Octopus would primarily attack with his shoulder-mounted Homing Torpedoes as well as piranha-shaped drone missiles fired from his tentacles. In addition, those tentacles also allowed him to create a whirlpool-like Marine Tornado capable of pulling in foes, at which point he would to then drain their energy to replenish his own.
With Octopus defeated, X could use the Homing Torpedoes himself and charge them up to launch a barrage of piranha-like drone missiles. After defeating a revived Octopus during the Erasure Incident, X instead acquired the Marine Tornado, allowing him to create a funnel of water around himself which damaged all who touched it. Charged, its effect resembled a charged Homing Torpedo, minus the homing capabilities.
