Cool, logical, and analytical to the point of nihilism, Boomerang Kuwanger was a swift-moving Maverick who was modeled after a stag beetle. Boomerang Kuwanger was initially part of the 17th Elite Unit, where he served under Sigma until the latter's uprising. After reaching the conclusion that going Maverick was not only logical, but interesting, Boomerang Kuwanger took command of a tower that loomed over the east side of Abel City, working to make a fortress out of it.
When Mega Man X encountered his old friend and expressed his hesitation to battle, Boomerang Kuwanger mocked X for balking at the promise of such a rare, fun fight-though he did respect the blue Hunter's untapped potential. Boomerang Kuwanger's death deeply affected his brother, Gravity Beetle, who served under Dr. Doppler in hopes of taking his revenge. It's unclear if Boomerang Kuwanger felt a similarly strong devotion to Gravity Beetle.
Boomerang Kuwanger's main attack was the Boomerang Cutter, a razor-sharp throwing weapon made of a special metal that returned faithfully to his hand after traveling a certain distance. The sleek Maverick was also a lethal opponent in close quarters; if he got close enough to Mega Man X, he'd grasp him in his "mandibles" and use his Dead Lift to throw him upwards with enough force to do major damage. Indeed, Boomerang Kuwanger's swift dash and lightning-quick teleportation ability made it all too easy for him to snag X and fling the Hunter skyward for an intimate meeting with his chamber's ceiling.

Once defeated, Boomerang Kuwanger gave up the Boomerang Cutter for X's own use. When fired, the Boomerang Cutter traveled in an arc and returned to X. If X caught the blade, the weapon's energy would be preserved. This unique feature came in handy as X learned to master the Boomerang Cutter. Its erratic path made it a difficult weapon to wield, but when used properly, it could slice enemies to ribbons- and even let X fetch faraway items that were otherwise unattainable. When charged, the Boomerang Cutter unleashed four large energy cutters in various directions.
