Commander of the 4th Land Unit of the Maverick Hunters, Flame Mammoth was stationed in the Middle East until he heard of Sigma's defection and joined the former Maverick Hunter leader in the hopes of being able to use the power granted to him by his large frame to go on violent rampages. Thanks to an incredibly arrogant personality matched only by his enormous size, he regarded those smaller and weaker than himself with disdain, putting him at odds with many of his subordinates and colleagues, most notably Chill Penguin.
Sigma put him in charge of the factories of an industrial area he planned to turn towards weapon production, which is where he first encountered X. In addition to attempting to either flatten or stagger X with his seismic bulk in a Jump Press, Mammoth used his trunk to spread oil across a conveyor belt in his chambers that was controlled by its trumpeting, then attempted to ignite it with blasts from his Fire Wave. During the Erasure Incident, Mammoth was revived and fought X once again, this time with Jump Presses and by firing balls of flame skyward that would then rain down on his opponent.
When X adapted the Fire Wave to his Variable Weapons System, it went from throwing bursts of flame to emitting a continuous stream of flame. When charged, it shot a burst of fire to the ground which sent a wave of flames across even terrain. Over the course of the Erasure Incident, Zero gained this weapon as well.
