"The miracle of the duo! Cure Miracle!"
Mirai Asahina is the protagonist of Mahoutsukai Precure! and a 13-year-old student who has always wanted to meet a magician. Her dream comes true one night when she meets Riko Izayoi, who has come to the Mundane World to look for the Linkle Stone Emerald. Mirai is always accompanied by her stuffed bear Mofurun, who is like a sister to her. After an encounter with the first antagonist of the series, the Mirai and Riko work together and become Pretty Cure. Mofurun, too, gains powers, and is able to speak. Mofurun then enables them to transform for the rest of the series.
Mirai shows a great talent for magic considering her non-magic upbringing, and she initially clashes with Riko over this. Regardless, the two quickly become inseparable, studying together at the Magic School in Riko's homeworld. Together they also raise the infant fairy Ha-chan and work to find the Linkle Stones needed to prevent a prophesied calamity.
As Cure Miracle, Mirai's costume is themed around the color pink, and has a clear heart motif. She also gains access to four different elemental-themed forms using the Linkle Stones, as well as an additional upgraded form used later in the series.
SPOILER: In the finale of the series, the Magic World and Mundane World are forced together so that the ultimate antagonist, Deusmast, can destroy both of them. With Deusmast's defeat, the worlds begin to drift away again. Riko tearfully makes the decision to go back to the Magic World, promising to find a way to connect the two worlds once again. While Riko is away, Mirai graduates school, and enters college to study international communications. During this period, Mofurun loses her ability to speak, but Mirai still keeps her by her side.
After a 6 year gap, Mirai goes on a walk with Mofurun, under the same kind of moon that she and Riko initially first met. There she tries to cast a magic spell to bring Riko and Ha-chan back to her. After tearfully giving up, she is teleported into the sky. Riko suddenly appears on a broom, finally reuniting with Mirai and bringing Magic back to the Mundane World, which allows Mofurun to speak to them both once more.
