Originally built by Man-at-Arms to cover for He-Man when Prince Adam is needed, Faker was abandoned in the royal junkyard and salvaged by the evil warrior Tri-Klops, using his smashed remains and rebuilding him into a more formidable combatant, even giving him synthetic flesh. He was reprogrammed to replace He-Man and convince the people of Eternia that He-Man had betrayed King Randor and turned to evil.
After his first battle with He-Man, one of Evil-Lyn's spells with the Shaping Staff backfired and caused Faker's artificial skin to turn blue. Inspired by the mistake, Skeletor commanded Tri-Klops to make the change permanent and trick the public into thinking He-Man was a Gar who betrayed and murdered King Randor, allowing Skeletor to briefly claim the Eternian throne.
