Fighbird is a plus energy being from a far-off planet that comes to Earth in pursuit of the malevolent minus energy called Draias. He is the leader of the Space Police Force that stands for justice. They will stop Draias by any means possible. While most of the force possesses vehicles as their main forms on Earth, Fighbird possesses an android made by Dr. Amano. He takes on the human disguise called Yuutarou Katori.
Katori lives among humans without understanding their customs, so he ends up looking naive and strange as he navigates social situations. He is infectiously curious about everything Earth has to offer. The alien admires human culture and nature alike. When Draias and his minions threaten to disrupt the peace, Katori bravely jumps into action.

Katori's android body can combine with Amano's Fire Jet to become Fighbird, a mighty giant robot. With the support craft called the Flame Breaster, he can transform into Armed Fighbird. When Katori combines with Amano's Fire Shuttle, he becomes Granbird instead. It also combines with the support craft Breaster Jet to transcend to Jet Granbird. Katori's ultimate form consists of a three-way fusion between Fighbird and Granbird to unleash Great Fighbird. He specializes in using his flame sword to finish off all opposers.
Despite being eccentric, Katori makes friends easily. He is especially close with Kenta Amano, his grade schooler co-pilot that sees him as an older brother. He has a couple of love interests in Dr. Yoshiko and Momoko. Katori loves everyone unapologetically.
