Terranigma is an Action RPG released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, developed by Quintet and published in Japan by Enix. It was published in Europe and Australia by Nintendo in 1996, and never got an official release in North America.
Ark, a delinquent boy, unadvertdly casts a curse upon his village, Crysta, after opening a forbidden door. All the villagers become frozen solid, except the Elder. The Elder promptly gives Ark a task: complete the trials of 5 towers in order to unfreeze the villagers.
By fullfilling his task, Ark unwillingly sets motion to the ressurrection of the Earth, which will force him to abandon his village, his childhood friends and the underworld until the process is finished. His journey through the surface allows him to witness firsthand what is gained and what is lost as countless lifeforms bloom and civilizations thrive.
