Son of the drunkard criminal Dario Brando, Dio was adopted into the Joestars after his father's death. Cold-hearted, calculating, and ambitious, he frequently butted heads with his new younger brother Jonathan, maintaining the facade of a good-natured young man while secretly plotting to take over the Joestar family. While doing so, he came across a mysterious stone mask that he discovered could turn others into vampires. After Jonathan foiled his plans, Dio decided to use the mask on himself, vowing to do everything in his power to kill Jonathan.
