Lumine was a New Generation Reploid and formerly the director of the Jakob Project before his mad ambition made it necessary for Mega Man X, Zero, and Axl to put him down. It was a difficult fight, as Lumine's abilities were unlike anything a previous generation Reploid could dream of wielding.
X's first encounter with Lumine was benign but alarming, nonetheless. The deceptively slight Reploid introduced himself as the leader of the Jakob Project while surrounded by fellow New Generation Reploids- all of whom had assumed the form of Sigma in order to survive a long fall after a carriage malfunction.
SPOILER: The Maverick Hunters scrambled when Lumine was kidnapped by Vile and spirited away to Sigma's lunar stronghold. Once Sigma had been defeated, however, Lumine emerged from the shadows. He informed the Hunters he was using Sigma to further his own ambitions in tempering the world for the proliferation of New Generation Reploids. He then accused X, Zero, and Axl of being mere puppets and "tools of the humans". He also threw an extra bit of shade at Axl for being a supposed New Generation prototype, and therefore useless to his cause. Axl's influence in Lumine's design came to the fore when the former leader of the Jakob Project engaged the Hunters. His primary arsenal consisted of attacks copied from the eight Mavericks the Hunters felled before him, though each had an alteration specific to Lumine. These included the Wave Wall, Cube Falls, Snow Eisen, Earth Crusher, Death Energy, Thunder Dancer, and Flame Tornado. Lumine also had command over Youdantotsu, the "Leaf Severing Thrust" technique Zero learned after defeating Bamboo Pandamonium.
Lumine reserved his true power for his second, seraph-like form. This angelic form featured an arsenal of unique weapons. Refrain shot a barrage of laser beams, Legato fired a smaller series of homing beams, Bel Canto surrounded Lumine with a yellow ring of feather-like crystals that stretched outward and pulled inward, Grave fired yellow crystals that fell down from the sky before slowly rising up again, and Unison sent crystals to one side of the battlefield, then pulled them back to the other side.
When Lumine detected he was on the losing side of the fight, he broke out his final, most lethal attack: "Paradise Lost". When initiated, Lumine's chamber gradually darkened as he faded in and out of view. If the Hunters hadn't brought him down quickly, they risked being brought to a swift, dark end at Lumine's wings. Much of Lumine remains a mystery. His motives, and even his physical makeup, aren't entirely clear. After his defeat, a tentacle-like appendage sprang from his cracked body and shattered the crystal in Axl's helmet, knocking the young Hunter unconscious for a time. Axl was clearly targeted by the attack, but [CLASSIFIED].
