Dubstep is characterized by half-time syncopated and sparse beats set around 140 BPM with heavy sub-basses and commonly features dark, nocturnal, spacious, and urban atmospheres, as well as bass drops. The genre is diverse and has spawned various sub-genres, namely the popular much more aggressive Brostep which incorporates Electro House influences, focuses more on buildup-drop structures, and lacks Dubstep's original dark, minimalistic sound.
