Alt-Pop is a broad genre combining Pop conventions with an underground sensibility drawing from modern Indie Pop, Chamber Pop, Indietronica, and Art Pop. Though diverse, Alt-Pop often employs minimal arrangements that put an emphasis on deep or quiet vocals, and often a darker, dreamier, and more downbeat tone than is standard in Pop. Alt-Pop may also draw from other modern trends like the synth stylings of Electropop, the vocal delivery of Contemporary R&B, and the atmospheric downbeat style of Alternative R&B and its often Downtempo oriented sound. Lyrically, Alt-Pop tends to focus on personal or autobiographical topics, with Pop mainstays like love, heartbreak, and adolescence as well as darker topics like alienation and depression.
