Description

Kimihiro Watanuki is a normal high-school boy, except for the fact that he can see spirits, and except for the fact that they absolutely cannot keep their hands off him. One day he stumbles across a strange shop, one that seems to keep spirits at bay. This shop is owned by Yuuko Ichihara, an eccentric witch who claims to grant people's wishes. In exchange for Watanuki's wish—to be free of the spirits that hound him—Yuuko has him work at her shop. Doing what? Well, just about everything; cooking, cleaning, bringing her hangover cures, or going out on shop-related excursions.

Watanuki's shop life is brightened by his crush, the ever-cheerful Himawari Kunogi, even if Yuuko insists he's better off not getting involved with her. On the flip side, his mood is constantly darkened by his other classmate, the ever-stoic Shizuka Doumeki, who everyone insists he must be deeply connected to. While working to grant his wish, Watanuki will meet many other people with their own wishes; not just humans, but a variety of spirits as well.

xxxHOLiC has been adapted into 39 anime episodes, an animated film, and two OVAs. It has also received a light novel, live action film and TV mini-series, and a stageplay. It currently has a sequel, xxxHOLiC Rei, which has run since 2013, with a hiatus lasting from 2017 to 2025. Holic is a companion piece to CLAMP's other work, Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, with the plot and characters overlapping at several points.
