Paranormal Order takes place in a universe where two dimensions exist: the Normal and the Paranormal. The normal world is where we live as humans, while the paranormal is a completely different place, where everything that seems impossible can become real, things usually associated with spirits, demons, and other types of post‑life abnormalities, for example.

These two realms are separated by a layer called the Membrane, which prevents the Normal and the Paranormal from coming into contact. However, this Membrane can weaken as fear of the supernatural increases, allowing horrifying and extremely dangerous monsters to invade our reality. This phenomenon usually occurs in very specific places prone to fear perception, such as abandoned hospitals, old houses, and deactivated asylums.

All around the world, various groups have formed, seeking to weaken the Membrane as much as possible in order to destroy it and merge the dimensions, either to pursue their own desires or perhaps to fulfill a greater purpose. Members of these groups are called Occultists (at that time, Esoterrorists).

To prevent chaos from spreading, a secret global organization was created: the Ordo Realitas (“Order of Reality,” at that time called Ordo Veritatis, “Order of Truth”). Ordinary people who live double lives to stop the actions of the Occultists, whose goal is to increase the population’s contact with the paranormal, heightening their fear and, consequently, weakening the Membrane and allowing the Paranormal to interfere.
