CLAMP's Sakura and Syaoran return, but not the same Sakura and Syaoran that starred in Cardcaptor Sakura. This pair instead lives in the desert kingdom of Clow, with Sakura as its princess and Syaoran as her beloved childhood friend. One night, Sakura visits Syaoran while he's working on an archaeological dig. But upon encountering a strange symbol in the ruins, Sakura's memories—pieces of her soul—are sucked into other dimensions in the form of feathers, and she falls catatonic.
In order to save Sakura's life, Syaoran travels to the Dimension Witch, Yuuko Ichihara, who gives him Mokona Modoki, a strange creature with the ability to travel through dimensions. But at a price. In exchange, Syaoran must give up Sakura's memories of him—even if all others return, her memories of their childhood together never will.
The two (and Mokona!) are accompanied by Kurogane, a banished ninja who wants to return home, and Fai D. Flourite, a mysterious and cheerful magician who wants to do anything but return to his.
Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE is manga circle CLAMP's most ambitious crossover work to date, spanning over 200 chapters and including countless characters and concepts from their previous works. It has been adapted into two 26-episode seasons, a movie, and two OVAs. It is also a companion piece to CLAMP's other work, xxxHOLiC, with the plot and characters overlapping at several points.
