The last survivor of a family of ninjas known as the Nue Clan. His real name is Kotaro. Three years ago, he was involved in a catastrophic incident that wiped out his entire clan and left him critically injured. Though declared dead by the Ninja Village, he in fact survived thanks to a passing merchant, and he has spent the past three years living under the radar in faithful service to his savior. He has low self-esteem and refers to himself as antisocial, preferring to dwell in the shadows.
He is also intensely loyal and has a tendency to go to extremes, such as disregarding his own life for the sake of his master or relentlessly seeking to eliminate anyone perceived as a threat. Despite frequent scoldings from Yuzuriha and Sato for this behavior, it remains a part of his nature that he struggles to change. Although his talent as a ninja is average, his skills rival the most elite ninjas in the village thanks to his diligent training and study. He regards Sato with the fondness one would have for a much younger sister.
