The father of Aglovale, Lamorak, and Percival, and the previous head of Wales. Known as the Lord of Light, he ruled Wales with an iron fist, and his uncompromising severity toward both himself and others made it difficult for retainers to approach him. However, he began to show a smile every now and then after meeting the gentle Herzeloyde. Later on, Herzeloyde's unfortunate death caused Gahmuret to change completely and devote himself to the study of the Otherworld in hopes of conquering surrounding countries and resurrecting his beloved wife.
The research was performed mostly by Gahmuret himself, aided by knowledge of the matter provided by a certain magician. Eventually, the Lord of Light was struck with an incurable sickness, and so he turned to the son most similar to him in nature—Aglovale—for continuing his research. Seeing the mad expression on his father's face and the obsessively written research notes left behind reminded Aglovale of a distant yet vivid memory: the moment his father's smile disappeared upon his mother's death—a memory that his younger brothers have long forgotten.
