Through training and learning, Evelyn mastered the art of achieving her ends through engaging in conversations, charm, and some special "tricks", albeit at the cost of losing her sense of smell and taste. As compensation, her adopted mother provided a life of luxury and served as a mentor and friend.

However, the prosperity was short-lived. Her adoptive mother accrued hefty debts due to her flamboyant lifestyle. In a skirmish with a moneylender, Evelyn, then newly of age, accidentally took the debtor's life protecting her adopted mother, which made her a wanted fugitive.

She repeatedly evaded the police due to her exemplary performance and disguise skills. When news of her foster mother's fatal illness reached her, she chose to surrender, fully aware of the trap that awaited her. Contrary to her expectations, there wasn't a gallows at the end of her imprisonment, but a propitious opportunity offered by a mysterious magnate. He expressed his willingness to pardon her crimes and ensure proper treatment and peaceful last days for her adopted mother, in exchange for Evelyn training more "Faro Lady" for him — like her adopted mother's grooming of her. The term of the pact was set for ten years.

With the assistance of her adoptive mother, Evelyn's "educational work" went smoothly, and her students swiftly turned into enticing yet dangerous assets of the magnate. By the ninth year, one particularly gifted student was nearly ready to fully assume Evelyn's talents and responsibilities, mastering the art of identity disguise to an unparalleled degree.

However, just as Evelyn planned to retire, this student defected. As the final condition for regaining her freedom, this magnate figure tasked Evelyn with dealing with the renegade student and provided her with the last known location of the student—Oletus Manor.
