She and Ayumu met when he transferred into her class in the spring, and they've been friends ever since - though theirs is certainly a turbulent friendship.
Yumina's parents abandoned her when she was very young. She grew up in an orphanage, and perhaps her desire to make something of herself is her way of repaying the debt she feels she owes to the people who raised her.
Needless to say, she often scolds Ayumu for his laziness.
